THE 17TH AFRICAN AMERICAN CHILDREN'S BOOK FAIR READS ON The 17th Annual African American Children's Book Fair will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2009, 1:00-3:00PM, Community College of Philadelphia. The event is one of the largest and oldest single day event to promote reading and the importance of buying books. Our mantra is "Preserve A Legacy, Buy A Book." The Book Fair started out on a cold frosty day at John Wanamaker Department Store in Philadelphia with 250 attendees. This year over 4,000 people attended the event at Community College of Philadelphia. The success of the program is due to the fact that we offer the best and the brightest from the African American Children's literary community. Parents, caregivers, educators and the media from the tri-state area are very supportive of the event. Children from preschool to young adult heartily anticipate this event. With the closure of many bookstores and limited amount of space on book shelves for Children's books this event has become a must attend for caregivers and educators. HOW IT WORKS It is a true book fair.... no sing or dancing, just books. Authors/illustrators will read and sign copies of their books. We mount an aggressive publicity campaign to promote the authors/illustrators and books. Even if your author/illustrators is not a participating in the event, my bookseller (Borders) still includes the best of the list in the bookstore area. Another highlight of the event is our Literary Row, which is an opportunity for publishers to showcase their titles through promotional giveaways. I am in need of posters, book markers, catalogs (50 for educators), or other book paraphernalia items. I need at least 150 of each item. This event is the perfect way to present your imprint to the tri-state market (Delaware, Southeastern New Jersey/Pennsylvania). Educators actively seek information and books at this event to support their programs. We also have strong attendance from charter schools in the region.
