Litany for Survival
Mark your calendars now and spread the word. On March 25, 1-4 p.m., at the Lafayette Avenue Church Suheir Hammad (Drops of this Story and Born Palestinian,
Born Black) Carl Hancock Rux will read original "Diallo" poems. Patricia Spears Jones will read June Jordan's "I Must Be a Menace to My Enemy" and "A Litany for Survival" by Audre Lorde. Members of the audience will be invited to share poems of survival and questions and answers will end the event. "Litany for Survival" is a free public event sponsored by ANANSI: Fiction of the African Diaspora and Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church. The Emancipation Proclamation was signed at the church. Frederick Douglass spoke in the sanctuary. The Audre Lorde Project operates out of the church, which as an impressive mural reflecting the community on the sanctuary's ceiling. This event is free and open to the public. A Question & Answer period will close the event.
