Geography, Race, and Culture: A Discussion, Reading and Performance
in collaboration with QBR The Black Book Review
& UKwithNY
Abyssinian Baptist Church 132 W138th Street New York, NY Saturday, October 20th, 2001 6:00pm - 9:00pm FREE (Food and Refreshment served)
Geography, Race, and Culture will explore the ways that the concept of race and culture informs the vision and creative output of some of today's new leading black British and African American thinkers and culture makers.
How do we navigate race and culture? Are the concepts of race and culture different for black brits than for african americans? Do we break the stifling imposition of race and culture, or do we celebrate race and culture? How do we create bridges so that we can continually "compare notes"?
At bottom line, this will be a celebration of black British and African American creativity...our attempt to bring the diaspora to closer reach. (And we will have fun, too).
